Amy Orr has been working with credit cards for several years. She cuts them up, then rearranges the fragments into mosaic-like compositions. Orr uses all kinds of plastic cards: health insurance, supermarket, gift, hotel, memberships, special offers, fake and real credit cards. As with all of Orr’s work, there are interwoven strata of content, material and process. The work ranges from decorative pattern pieces to multifaceted compositions addressing current events, appropriation, politics, identity and value. In much of Orr’s work the plastic is beaded onto cloth. Broken slivers of identity permeate the surfaces.
Donate your cards
Send her your old credit cards and other plastic cards. She’ll put them to good use. Email Amy if you’d like to donate.
